White Women's Shoes
A pair of off-white, kid leather women's shoes with shirred ribbon decoration on the top. They were most likely worn by Sylvia (Putnam) Hamilton (donor Grace Hamilton Frackleton's paternal great-grandmother) at her wedding on February 11, 1811 in Cobleskill, New York. Sylvia Putnam Hamilton (1789-1883) was born May 25, 1789 in Brattleboro, Vermont, the daughter of Asa Putnam (1743-1795) and Anna Collins who married on July 24, 1766 in Massachusetts. Sylvia married Zane A. Hamilton (c. 1785-1863). She died on October 2, 1883 in Cattaraugus, New York. The shoes were probably worn with dress--1945.1013, petticoat--1949.298, and bust supporter--1967.237.2. |
