Title: Gettysburg Cemetery
Description: Stereograph of the Evergreen Cemetery, a private cemetery in Gettysburg opened in 1855. Because of its location on Cemetery Hill, the highest point in the vicinity, the highly visible gateway was a focus of combat during the battle. This photograph was made by Mathew Brady a few days after the battle. The gateway, now a national historic landmark, adjoins the National Cemetery.
