Title: Confederate Prisoners
Description: Stereograph of three Confederate soldiers captured during the Battle of Gettysburg. This photograph was taken by Mathew Brady a few days after the battle. Today it is one of the most iconic images of the Civil War. The card from the Historical Society's collection is a rare early imprint of Brady's Gettysburg work. (Note that Brady was using up some outdated 1862 stereocards.) The card was purchased at Brady's studio by Lucius Fairchild when he had his picture taken there in the fall of 1863.
