Title: Delta Ministry Office
Description:

Exterior view of the Delta Ministry Office at 722 Mobile Street taken by a civil rights volunteer. Rev. Robert Beech was the director.

"The office was in the heart of one of the negro sections. One test of sympathy for a white person of prestige or importance was to see if he would come to the office for a visit. The COFO [Council of Federated Organizations] office was across the street, the NAACP [National Association for the Advancement of Colored People] next door, and the FDP [Freedom Democratic Party] around the corner from the D.M. [Delta Ministry]. To the back of the office, provisions were made for sleeping 14 D.M. [Delta Ministry] workers on occasion other Freedom Movement workers."

"Bob, a Presbyterian minister, is not allowed to join the white Presbyterian church in Hattiesburg. His children were denied continued enrollment in the church nursery school after their father's actions became known."
