Title: Fairchild Parole Document
Description: Parole document issued to Colonel Lucius Fairchild of the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry, captured at the Battle of Gettysburg after being wounded on the first day of the battle. Fairchild's injury was so severe that his arm had to be amputated. The witness to Fairchild's signature has written: "This parole is extended to the wounded in consideration of humanity to save a painful and tedious march to the rear."
