Title: A Country Mile
Description: A rural road canvassed and photographed by a civil rights volunteer.

"'A country mile' - one road to canvass in Summit, Miss. Actually the shaded part of this road will be a welcomed, if temporary, relief from the high humidity and 90+ degree heat that we faced almost every day of our stay in McComb-Summit."

"Canvassing...canvassing is walking, walking a country mile, sweating, listening, talking, listening, walking. Its purpose is to tell the good news of easier voter registration, of a freedom meeting, of a petition against J.P. Coleman, of the Freedom Democratic Party - a party for ALL the people of Mississippi. The aims are to discover what the people want, & what they are prepared to do."
