Freedom School Students Drinking Coca Cola |
| Description: |
Freedom School students photographed by a civil rights volunteer. "A free Coke for all - offered by the new superintendent of schools - helped to create an unexpected friendly atmosphere when Freedom School students brought their complaints to the school administration of McComb. The students spoke up for themselves in asking for specific remedies to certain school conditions. Some of the older students also joined the picket line of the maids at Holiday Inn. In my opinion, the Freedom School may have the greatest influence on the new generation of Negroes in the South."
