The map reads: "Dartford is centrally located in Wisconsin, on the north side of Green Lake, and in full view of that beautiful sheet of Water. Its precise location is on the North West quarter of sec. 21 Township 16. Range 13 laid out and recorded in February 1847.-Six Miles from Fox River on the North, and eight miles, on the west. Thirty miles west from Fond-du-Lac, and thirty three north east from Fort Winnebago, seventy miles from Madison, the capital of the State, and ninety five, from the City of Milwaukee,-and by way of Fox River, one hundred miles from Green Bay. The Country, adjacent to this town, is proverbially good, and the Country is known to produce a superior quality of wheat. The mill power at this point is sufficient to drive eight runs of stone, besides, saw Mills, and others Machinery. A large grist and flouring Mill is in successful operation. A good saw Mill, three large Stores, Blacksmith's, Shoemaker's, Tailor's and Harness Shops. Boats of suitable size, can be floated, from the Mills, to Fox River, as well as down that stream. Every facility is now afforded here, for building, that can be found in any Western town. Brick Material, Lune Stone and lime. Stone, as well as lumber, of all descriptions.
About eighty Lots, have this season (1849.) been Sold to Eastern Capitalists."
Streets run east to west beginning at the top with "Taylor Street" down to "South Street." Running north to south the streets begin on the left with "Ewing Street" and end with "Race Street." There is one northeast street called "Mill Race," and the road headed west of the town is labeled "To Kingston, Fort Winnebago &cc." the east bound road out of town is labeled "To Fond du Lac, Watertown & Milwaukee." "Mill Square" and "Ward's Addition" are noted on the map. The body of water is labeled "Part of Green Lake."
