Barton, Albert O. (Albert Olaus) "Ole bull and his Wisconsin contacts"

Ole Bull and His Wisconsin Contacts: Norwegian violinist Ole Bull (1810-1880) was an international celebrity before he turned 30. This articles collates the evidence of his visits to Wisconsin in 1853, 1856, 1857, 1868 and 1870. In the last year he met and married (at age 60) 20-year-old Sarah Thorp of Madison and for the remainder of his life Wisconsin was his U.S. base of operations. His Madison home became a focal point for the cultural life of Wisconsin's Norwegian community, and this article provides rich detail on many of his activities here. (27 pages)
