Gregory, John Goadby, 1856- "Early Wisconsin editors: Philo White"

Early Wisconsin Editors, part 2: This installment examines the career of Philo White (1796-1883), who moved to Milwaukee in 1836, where he helped to establish the Milwaukee Sentinel, and served briefly as its editor. In 1844 he moved to Racine, where he purchased the Racine Advocate, and published this paper until 1846. It also describes White's travels in the East, South, and Latin America, his political career as a member of the Territorial Legislature (1847-1848) and state senator (1848), and his career as a U.S. diplomat in Ecuador.
