"Editorial comment: The Belknap impeachment trial"

Editorial Comment: The Belknap Impeachment Trial: Robert Wild discusses the 1876 impeachment proceedings against Secretary of War William W. Belknap (1829-1890). Wild strives to correct a number of errors about the trial found in the “Annual Cyclopaedia.” In addition, he comments on the honorable conduct of Matthew H. Carpenter (1824-1881) and William Pitt Lynde (1817-1885), both members of the Milwaukee bar, who argued the case. (8 pages)
