Collie, George L. "A distinguished son of Wisconsin: Thomas C. Chamberlin"

A Distinguished Son of Wisconsin, Thomas C. Chamberlain, part 1: This article only describes the youth of geologist Chamberlain (1843-1928). After reviewing the early history of Beloit College, the author quotes extensively from an unpublished memoir by Chamberlain's mother about his childhood. The essay then describes his student years at Beloit College, 1862-1866, providing a wealth of detail about how the Civil War affected college life. (18 pages)
