Haraszthy, Agoston, 1812-1869 "Documents: Haraszthy's Wisconsin experience"

Haraszthy's Wisconsin Experience: This article is the English translation of an excerpt from Travels in the United States of America by Agostan Haraszthy (1812-1869). He briefly compares observations of life in Canada to that in the United States before retracing his journey through Wisconsin. He recounts his encounters with the Indians, as well as visits to Milwaukee, Fort Atkinson, Green Bay, Mineral Point, and Galena, Illinois, among others, noting the picturesque scenery along his route. Haraszthy also describes his part in founding the village now known as Sauk City. (25 pages)
