Rosenberry, Marvin Bristol, 1868-1958 "Chief Justice Charles Dunn of the territorial supreme court"

Chief Justice Charles Dunn of the Territorial Supreme Court: The author, who was chief justice of the State Supreme Court, provides here a biographical sketch of another chief justice. Dunn (1799-1872), was appointed in 1836, and the article reviews territorial era politics, discusses his more important rulings, and describes an exciting murder trial over which he presided with his saddlebags close at hand in case self-defense became necessary. It also reviews his later life as a prominent citizen of Lafayette County and reprints tributes offered at the time of his death in 1872, when he was the oldest practicing lawyer in the state.
