Timothy O. Howe, Stalwart Republican: A biographical sketch of Timothy O. Howe (1816-1883), a lawyer from western Maine who was elected to Wisconsin's fourth circuit court and was highly involved with Republican party politics. Howe was the favored Republican candidate for various state offices, and was eventually elected state Senator where he was an early advocate for emancipation, and after the end of the Civil War, reform and reconstruction. Howe remained involved in Wisconsin politics after he left the Senate in 1879. (10 pages)
