"Brick" Pomeroy: Copperhead and Curmudgeon: The views of Marcus M. Pomeroy, owner of the La Crosse Democrat, are discussed here. Pomeroy was anti-Abraham Lincoln and felt that although states did not have the right of succession, the Civil War was merely an excuse for emancipation. His editorial comments won him national notoriety. (8 pages)
