Koch, Melchior "The Sugar River Valley"

The Sugar River Valley: In this excerpt from a longer memoir, Melchior Koch (dates unknown) recounts his childhood near Riley and Klevenville in western Dane County. He gives warm descriptions of the characters from the area, who came from a variety of national and religious backgrounds yet formed a single community. The article provides a slice-of-life view of rural Wisconsin at the turn of the 20th century. (6 pages)
