"Faithfully yours, Ellen C. Sabin: correspondence between Ellen C. Sabin and Lucia R. Briggs from January, 1921, to August, 1921"

Faithfully Yours, Ellen C Sabin: Correspondence Between Ellen C. Sabin and Lucia R Briggs From January, 1921, to August, 1921. Ellen Sabin (1850-1949) served as president of the all-female Milwaukee-Downer College from 1895-1921. Sabin, a native of Sun Prairie, who held no academic degree, held the presidency of Milwaukee-Downer College for 30 years. In 1921, Sabin began what would a life-long correspondence with her successor, Lucia Briggs (1887 - ?). Excerpts from their letters give deep insight into how a woman’s college should be run, salaries of the time period and the strong beliefs of the authors. Sabin and Briggs presided over Milwaukee-Downer for a total of 60 years and they continued to correspond until Sabin’s death in 1949. Milwaukee-Downer merged with Lawrence University in Appleton in 1964. (25 pages)
