ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
He was born in Germany in 1876. In Milwaukee in 1901, he pioneered in the application of electric welding with the establishment of the Heil Railjoint Company. The company eventually became a leader in the manufacture of truck bodies and refuse collection vehicles. In 1938 the Wisconsin Republicans chose him as their gubernatorial candidate, a continuation of the party's tendency between the 1920s and 1950s to look to business for its political leaders. Heil was defeated for reelection in 1942 and died in 1949. The Heil company remained in family hands until 1993.
