Lake Mills Commercial Historic District Placed on the State Register of Historic Places

Lake Mills, Wis. - The Wisconsin Historical Society placed the Lake Mills Commercial Historic District (Lake Mills, Jefferson County) on the State Register of Historic Places on November 30, 2018.

The district is significant for its exceptional collection of commercial buildings representing the historic commercial core of the community for over 100 years. The district has a large downtown park and a collection of Italianate, Queen Anne, Richardsonian Romanesque Revival, Neo-Classical Revival, Twentieth Century Commercial styles, and Commercial Vernacular design.  These buildings have very good integrity help tell the story of commercial development as well as the development of popular architectural styles.

The State Register is Wisconsin's official list of state properties determined to be significant to Wisconsin's heritage. The State Historic Preservation Office at the Wisconsin Historical Society administers both the State Register and National Register in Wisconsin.
