Experience the Hidden Side of the Dells on one of the H.H. Bennett Studio Walking Tours

Wisconsin Dells, Wis. – H.H. Bennett Historic Site will be offering walking tours on select Friday evenings June to October.

“We are excited to offer a variety of walking tours this season that give guests a peek at the hidden side of Wisconsin Dells,” said David Rambow, H.H. Bennett Historic Site director for the Wisconsin Historical Society.

The Haunted Kilbourn Walking Tour lets guests see historic downtown dells through the eyes of Victorian Kilbourn (the early name for the Dells). From the ghosts that gave a saloon its name to the wife of the man who made the Dells famous, this walking tour is bound to thrill and intrigue Dells residents and visitors alike. This tour will begin and end at H.H. Bennett Studio. Light refreshments will be provided with a Q & A after the tour. The cost for this tour is $10/person. This tour will be offered on June 7, July 12, August 9, September 13 and October 11.

Our Honored Dead: Civil War Cemetery Tour, explores the area's ancestors and history at Spring Grove Cemetary. This walking tour supports the information seen in George H. Houghton: Civil War Cameraman, a temporary exhibition at H.H. Bennett Studio. Guests for this tour should meet at Spring Grove Cemetery located on Hwy 23 just east of the intersection of Hwy 13/16/23. The cost for this tour is $15/person. This tour will be offered on June 14, July 19, August 16, September 20 and October 18.

Kreepy Kilbourn: The Original Dells Ghost Walk delves into the paranormal and haunted experiences of downtown Wisconsin Dells area. This ghost walk will take guests around the downtown area to a variety of stops known for their ghostly experiences and legends. This tour will cover approximately one mile of walking on paved but sometimes uneven sidewalks and will start and end at H.H. Bennett Studio. The cost for this tour is $20. This tour will be offered on June 21, July 26, August 23, September 27 and October 25.

Please note that some of the content on all of these tours may be unsuitable for children under 12.

Henry Hamilton Bennett, considered one of the preeminent landscape photographers of the 19th century, he started photography in 1865 and he built his first personal studio in Wisconsin Dells in 1875 and brought global attention and audiences to the Dells through his captivating photography of the natural landscape. The studio remains the oldest business currently operating in the Wisconsin Dells. This photographic studio is actually one of if not the oldest working photography studio in the country.
