Daniel Stephans receives award from the Wisconsin Historical Society | Wisconsin Historical Society

Evansville, WI. – The Wisconsin Historical Society is excited to announce that Daniel Stephans, AIA is the recipient of the 2020 Historic Preservation Award for his years of service specializing in historic preservation and restoration.

“This award recognizes the contributions of an individual to the field of historic preservation and preservation efforts in Wisconsin," said Christian Overland, Ruth and Hartley Barker Director & CEO of the Wisconsin Historical Society. "Daniel is an example through all of his 44 years of work in the historic preservation and restoration field."

 Mr. Stephans worked for the State of Wisconsin as the Chief State Architect for 25 years and guided numerous projects to completion.  In this capacity, he oversaw the restoration of the Wisconsin State Capitol Building, which took over 10 years. For 15 years, Mr. Stephans has served on the State Historic Preservation Review Board, providing his expertise to both the Board as a whole, and to the Architecture Committee.  He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Taliesin Preservation in Spring Green and is the Chair of the Evansville Historic Preservation Commission.

Each year, the Wisconsin Historical Society’s governing Board of Curators recognizes individuals and organizations for meritorious work in areas relating to the Society’s mission.  The Board of Curators is made up of thirty-seven elected and appointed members from across the state.
