National Peace Jubilee Banquet Menu | Print | Wisconsin Historical Society
Front cover, first illustration, and menu page for the "National Peace Jubilee Banquet tendered to The President of the United States and distinguished guests by The Citizens of Chicago." Includes illustrations by L. Braunhold: on the front cover, a crowned female figure in a long gown holds a "Welcome" scroll and the seal of the City of Chicago as she stands on the steps between two columns entwined with garlands of flowers. A vista of classical buildings is seen in the background. The first illustration features a winged female figure holding a cornucopia filled with flowers rising above a shield marked "Peace and Prosperity." At the base of the shield, a blacksmith stands with an anvil and hammer, and the god Hermes/Mercury, with winged cap and sandals and holding a caduceus, stands in front of a plow and a sheaf of wheat.
