Her husband battled city officials and wealthy neighbors for control of prime lakefront property in downtown Chicago for over thirty years, becoming a folk hero in the process. Original caption reads: "Mrs. Streeter as she appeared in her garden on May 9th, where she is busily engaged in making a very fine garden. Mrs. Streeter is very liberal hearted and takes pleasure in distributing her surplus vegetables among the worthy poor."
