Forest of Fame | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Two signs are posted in an open area planted with young trees. One sign identifies the "Forest of Fame Mt. Vernon," and the other sign the "Elm Tree from Birthplace of — President Hayes, Freemont, Ohio, 1924." There is a school or church with bell tower in the background, as well as three large houses. The Forest of Fame was planted by University of Wisconsin professor John Sweet Donald on land he owned. The first trees were planted in 1916. The land is now a town park.
