The original caption reads, "Prints #178-181-241-352-440- I-11694 are front, side and rear views of the McCormick Wire Binder; built in 1876. Patented Charles B. Withington, Feb.20, 1872. The improvement embodied in this machine consists of a mechanism for automatically binding the grain with wire, and discharging it in bundles on the ground." Handwritten on the back of the photograph reads, "Doc. No. 513." This print may be a copy print produced in about 1915. |
