Old Abe Collector Card
Old Abe, eagle mascot of the 8th Wisconsin Regiment, 1865 or 1870. Popular cards sold in great quantities as benefit items ($9 per 100), so great was this bird's fame. Old Abe is perched on a shield with the American stars and stripes painted on it. Card published by Alfred L. Sewell, Dunlap, Sewell & Spaulding, Chicago, from a photograph made in March, 1865. |
