Bernhard (Bernt) J. Madsen
A vignetted, quarter-length cabinet card portrait of Bernt J. Madsen a sergeant in Company B, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Cambridge, Wisconsin. On October 1, 1861, he enlisted and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on January 18, 1861, at the age of 22. He was taken prisoner during the battle at Chickamauga, Georgia. As a prisoner of war, he was held at Richmond, Virginia. He did not muster out of service with the company, but instead was mustered out of service on January 27, 1865, in Madison, Wisconsin. |
