Holiday Card with a Military Theme
Holiday card of a window, looking outward from the inside of a house. On the sill is an American Eagle on a Federal Shield over a swag of holly and ribbon, and two lit candles. Through the window a snow-covered tree can be seen. A flag with two blue stars and a red border is glued onto the wooden windowpane dividers. The service star was a frequent theme in many WWI cards. During the war many families hung red, white, and blue service banners in their windows as a sign of patriotism. Blue stars in a banner indicated the number of family members in the service, gold stars indicated a death. |
