Quarter-length oval studio portrait of Ole E. Troan [as written on the photograph backing, Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20 ("Blue Books") and published rosters: Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion (1914) and Rosters of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1 (1886); also as Ole E. Trean Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20 ("Red Books")], a private in Company I, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Madison, Wisconsin. On September 27, 1861, he enlisted in Madison, Wisconsin and on November 16, 1861 he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 17. From October to December 1863 he was detached to the 6th Ohio Battery. During the battle at New Hope Church, Georgia, he was severely wounded in the leg (fractured by shell). He was discharged on December 8, 1864, from Harvey Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. |
