Italianate features include the low pitch roof, overhanging eave with decorative brackets, double doors with glass panels, tall first story windows, and decorative window moldings. The full front porch is typical of the style. This house was built in about 1860. The first recorded owner is R.A. Loveland, a partner in the firm of Payne, Hastings and Company, proprietors of the Rock County Woolen Mills. Loveland served as mayor of Janesville.
