Weekends in May

Celebrate spring with us as we begin our springtime chores!  Guests can check out the newest additions to our flocks and see how we transform wool from sheep to socks with hands on experiences for all ages.  Then, help prepare the gardens for the growing season and see what's cooking in the kitchen after the long winter.

May Highlights:

Mark your Calendars for MOTHERS DAY, May 13, 2018.

Show your mother some Historic Love with a CARRIAGE RIDE around Crossroads Village.  12-3 pm Sunday May 13. Once you arrive, sign up across from The Creamery for you spot. Each ride costs 1 Time Travel Token ($5, available at the Museum Store), and spaces are limited. 

What better way to show Mom how much you care than by having your image “struck” by our HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPHER?  10:30 am – 4:30 pm Sunday May 13. Spots are limited and seatings must be booked in advance. $80 for a session and you will be mailed your finished Tin Type - ready for the history books! (More details on how to reserve your session coming soon!)

Treat your mom to a gift that grows.  Celebrate the Grand Opening of the newest shopping experience at Old World Wisconsin- THE GARDEN SHOP!  Be inspired by the gardens, then pick up seeds, tools, and other garden inspiration to make your home bloom with history.  Grand Opening 1-5:30 pm, Sunday May 13.

Plus, Every Weekend in May:

Learn How to Pick and Card Wool in the 1860s Norwegian Immigrant Farm Summer Kitchen   Roll up your sleeves and learn how wool gets from sheep to sweater.  You’ll never look at fuzzy socks the same way!

Root Around in the Garden German Immigrant Gardens   Come hlep get the gardens ready for spring planting!  In our gardens representing German Immigrants in the 1860s, 1870s and 1880s  you help prepare the beds for root vegetables and start planting.

Leave Time for Some Historic Shopping! Time Travel Tokens are a great way for younger guests to engage with history by getting to do their own shopping at the Thomas General Store, Four Mile House or the Blacksmith Shop. The Tokens allow you to taste flavors from the past, or purchase a souvenir that proves your are truly a part of history.   Tokens are availible for purcahse at the Museum Store for $5 and can be used during any visit. (psst! Grandparents, these make great treats for the little ones!)

Location Information

Old World Wisconsin documents the settlement of 19th- and early 20th-century Wisconsin. It comprises an 1870s crossroads village and 10 ethnic farmsteads located on 576 acres of wooded hills in the Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest.
