As Madison's Capital Times marks its centennial in 2017, Capital Times editor John Nichols, coauthor with Dave Zweifel of the new Wisconsin Historical Society Press book The Capital Times: A Proudly Radical Newspaper's Century-Long Fight for Justice and for Peace will recall stories from the paper's first 100 years. He will share how a newspaper in America's heartland served as a tribune of Robert M. La Follette and the progressive movement, earned the praise of Franklin Delano Roosevelt for its stalwart opposition to fascism, battled Joe McCarthy during the "Red Scare," championed civil rights, opposed wars, and stood with Russ Feingold when he cast the only US Senate vote against the Patriot Act. A book signing will follow.
