Walk beyond the velvet ropes and take an in-depth look at the 1885 redecoration of the home of Louis and Nina Dousman. You will learn how John J. McGrath, a proponent of the British Arts and Crafts Movement, selected wallpaper, fabrics, and carpeting for Nina, turning a plain house into a colorfully vibrant home. The tour provides an opportunity to examine family furniture, made by Wisconsin and Midwestern cabinetmakers, which McGrath incorporated into his design. Reservations Required.

The historic Villa Louis mansion is the centerpiece of a grand Victorian estate built by the family of Hercules Dousman, a frontier entrepreneur who amassed a fortune in the fur trade and other frontier investments. The mansion has just undergone a top-to-bottom documentary restoration that has returned the Dousman home to the splendor of its 1890s heyday, using British Arts and Crafts interior designs inspired by famed designer William Morris.
