1864 - (Civil War) Union forces arrive at Meridian, Mississippi

General William T. Sherman arrived outside Meridian, Mississippi, after meeting heavy resistance. The 8th, 12th, 25th, 32nd and 33rd Wisconsin Infantry regiments were present for the battle of Meridian the next day.

1935 - Gasoline Price Wars Quelled

On this date, in an effort to stop gasoline price wars, the state of Wisconsin established a minimum price of 16 cents per gallon for gasoline. [Source: Janesville Gazette]

1948 - Potato Growers of Wisconsin Recognized
