Flour and feed sacks become a State Fair quilt in 1931

"Broken Star" 4-H State Fair Quilt

Elda Strahm made this quilt out of flour and feed sacks as part of a 4-H project in 1931. Like many other organizations during the height of the Depression, 4-H emphasized thrift projects that reused and repurposed existing materials. Strahm collected the flour and feed sacks for her projects from members of her family, and over the next several years, she made over 70 items from them.
