Influenza Quarantine sign
Flu Quarantine Sign
This quarantine sign from the Spanish flu epidemic documents both the devastation the disease brought to Wisconsin communities as well as the state's unique attitude toward public health. The age-old practice of quarantining goods, animals, and people believed to be carrying infectious disease was one effective health measure. The state's centralized response to the flu and the willingness of Wisconsin citizens to comply with state orders saved many lives.
