This brief memoir by Henry Baird, written in 1870,  describes a battle in May 1830 between the Sioux and the Sauk and Fox near Prairie du Chien, Wis. He recounts the background to the fight, the ambush, and especially its gruesome aftermath as the victorious Sioux celebrated their success throughout the streets of the town.
