Church Service in Cherbourg
Chaplain Captain Allan R. Fredine holds a Protestant church service in a roundhouse used by the 757th Railway Shop Battalion in Cherbourg, France. He is using the hood of his jeep as an altar and is seated at a portable piano. Many soldiers stand and sit while singing from hymnbooks. In the upper left corner, two more soldiers look on from on top of a railroad car. Robert Doyle wrote a caption for this image although it was not published at that time, "Church services at the roundhouse are held for men of a railway shop battalion sponsored by the Milwaukee Road. Chaplain conducting this service near Cherbourg is Captain Allan Fredine of Minneapolis, Minnesota, who had Baptist churches in Eau Claire and Superior." |
