Original caption:<p>"The above picture is the first that has been taken of Mrs. Vernon Castle and her soldier husband since he returned to this country after his strenuous duties as a member of the British Flying Corps at the front in France. Mr. Castle has been awarded the 'Croix de Guerre' in recognition of his distinguished services. He has been visiting his wife at the Pathé Studio where she is starring in motion pictures and the photograph was taken there in a 'set' which is being used in her first feature picture.<p>The dog, it will be noted, is a German police dog. When asked as to how it happens that he is willing to have as pet a dog which is as Teutonic as a dachshund, Mr. Castle informed the interviewer that the canine deserted from the German trenches to the English and was now British in everything except name."<p>This publicity photograph was taken on the set of Irene Castle's silent film "Sylvia of the Secret Service" (Astra Film, 1917).
