ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The Ada James papers, held by the Society, document the Wisconsin Woman Suffrage Association, its activities and participants. Ada James (1876-1952) was a social reformer, humanitarian, and pacifist residing in Richland Center, Wisconsin. The collection contains material on her parents, David G. James and Laura Briggs James; these papers reflect her father's interest in employment for women, woman suffrage, spiritualism, birth control, and socialism. Among the volumes are also diaries, 1865, 1882-1904, and proceedings of the meetings of the Wisconsin Woman's Suffrage Association, 1885-1903, kept by her mother. Ada James' correspondence dates 1890-1952. Most numerous are the letters of the period from 1911 to 1918, when she was active in the suffrage movement as president of the Political Equality League, 1911-1913, and a member of the Wisconsin Woman's Suffrage Association and of the National Woman's Party.
