A logging crew of the Upham Lumber Company, together with the company's locomotive, "Old Vanderbilt," formerly the Wisconsin Central Railroad's Engine No #47, bought in 1880 from the New York, Providence and Boston Railroad where she was named "Oregon." The locomotive was built by the Taunton Locomotive Works in 1847 and later rebuilt and renamed, the "C. Vanderbilt" in 1860. The engine was sold by the Wisconsin central in 1887 to the Upham Lumber Company. No. 47 was inside connected, had power cranks on the main driving axle, a copper fire box, and was a wood burner. Shown here are engineer Frank Leuckenbach and his crew of lumberjacks.
DESCRIPTION
