The Cathedral in Milwaukee
A watercolor of the Catholic Cathedral in Milwaukee, with well-dressed pedestrians strolling on the street. Hölzlhuber was choirmaster here between 1856 and 1860; the honor was offered to him by Archbishop Hennig after hearing a composition written by Hölzlhuber performed at a festival in St. Mary's Church. Taken from Hölzlhuber's description of the scene, translated by Vera Kroner. |
