Pinckney Street | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Madison's Pinckney Street, with the Capitol Park in the foreground and Farwell's octagon house and Lake Monona in the distance. This view has been variously identified in the past: Thwaites' "Story of Madison" identifies it as copied from from a daguerreotype taken from the rotunda of the Capitol, 1856, while this original print is labeled 1859 and indicates that it was enlarged from an ambrotype. It is a variant of Image ID: 26867, showing more of the U.S. Hotel, and was therefore taken by John S. Fuller.
