The George A. Whiting Paper Mill after a fire on August 24, 1888. A man is standing to the left of a large damaged metal section of the mill which is resting on wood blocks. Sixteen men were killed by the explosion of a bleacher; the bleacher exploded as the night fire-man had no time to turn off the steam as he escaped the fire. The bleacher hit the office (the building to the right of the chimney) and landed on the rails where the sixteen men that were killed were standing.
