Sketch of Fort Shelby
| Fort Shelby, built by the Americans during the War of 1812. In 1814 the fort surrendered to British forces led by Captain Andrew W. Bulger who renamed it Fort MacKay. Before vacating the post at the end of the war, the British burned the fort. In 1816 the Americans built the first Fort Crawford on approximately the same site. This sketch appears on a document in Bulger's papers in the Public Archives of Canada. |
