Photograph taken for International Harvester's Agricultural Extension Department. Folder: Dairying The photograph caption reads: "Principal J.E. Hendley made the department possible by advancing $90 to purchase two Jersey cows and by soliciting equipment and a cow barn from various manufacturers. The department was opened in January, 1925, for second year pupils, girls and boys taking part in the actual work. Before this department was opened, the hotel at Reform, Ala. was shipping a (sic) all the milk and butter used there from Illinois, but made arrangements to use all the butter made at the school. As the scholars live in the country, the effect of this work will gradually become evident on the farm when the people learn how much profit can be made on dairy products, where there is such a good local market for all the milk and butter which can be produced in that territory. These two young men have charge of the work outside of school hours and do the cleaning around the barn, for which they are to erceive (sic) a small proportion of the net prifit (sic) from the dairy." |
