Vignetted carte-de-visite portrait of Daniel C. Eaton (1834-1895), American Botanist. In 1864 (the year of this photograph), Eaton became a professor of botany at Yale University, where he taught until he died. His most well-known volume was entitled, "The Ferns of North America" (1879). Handwritten inscription at the bottom reads, "Daniel C. Eaton, May 1864." |
