Text on back reads, "GERMANY (Wurtemberg), SIMPLICITY, neatness and industry are characteristics of the German women, particularly of the women of Wurtemberg. They live in a part of Germany where the climate is moderate, the land fertile, and where the standard of education is high. In such a country, among the a frugal people, appreciating the best and requiring full value for cash expended, the Singer sewing-machine leads all others. This is not because it is sold at a lower price than other machines, but because of its superior excellence in design and manufacture. The photograph, taken by one of our agents in Germany, and here reproduced, is a fitting illustration of the strong, healthy, well-trained peasant woman of the German Empire. The most peculiar feature of her costume is the head-dress, which is a modified form of the old style. Formerly a tall semi-circular crest of richly embroidered velvet, fastened to a close-fitting quilted cap of silk, encircled th head from ear to ear. Four wide streamers of ribbon hung from the back. Now a small, round velvet cap takes the place of the crested one, but the ribbons are still worn. The Sewing-Machine has so long been a necessity in every family that the main question is: Which Machine is the Best? The women of the family answer this question by purchasing more than a million Singers each year. There is a good reason for this. It is shown conclusively at every Singer Store, or by any Singer Salesman. Singer Stores in Every City. See Singer Store in YOUR CITY." |
