Union Cannon Firing at Disunion House
The cannon "UNION," is supported on the gun carriage with the names of Cameron, Lincoln, Scott and Seward on it, and the cannon is firing on the house "DISUNION" with a Confederate flag flying over it. Boards with names Beauregard, Bragg, Davis, Floyd, Pillow, Rhett, Stephens and Twiggs on them are flying through the air. Boards with the word "Letter of Marque" and "Bonds" are also flying in the air. The trunk of the palmetto tree (a possible reference to South Carolina) is shown being split in two on the lower right. "Richardson N.Y." is below palmetto log. Blue and red ink on beige envelope. Illustration on left side, printed on envelope, mounted on a decorative border and collected in an album. |
